Hex lived in an old abandoned barn with his grandmother and brother. His mother and father had had last been seen over a year ago. They went out a year after his birth, and they hadn’t heard from them since. His grandmother took great care of them, fed them, kept them safe. Many years came and went, until the day he was to turn 9. “Grandma! Damien! Get up! It’s my birthday!!” Hex screeches, running up and down the old boards. “Get up, get up, get up!!!” Hex giggles as he jumps up and down on his brother’s blanket. He bolts downstairs to wait for them, so excited he could freak. When they start down the ladder, he zooms up to meet them, meowing happily. “Get out of my face!” Damien exclaimed, waving his paws to swat at Hex. “Happy birthday dear.” Says Grandma, finishing down the ladder and settling herself on an old rug. “Here’s your birthday gift.” She says, nudging and crisp box towards Hex. He sits and opens the box with his teeth. Inside is a brand new navy and white scarf.

He picks it up, and kneads the soft fabric with his paws. His grandmother wraps it around his neck. “Do you like it, dear?” She says with a smile “I-I love it grandma.” Hex says with a tear in his eye. I’m never going to take it off, I’m never going to get it dirty. He says. “It’s perfect!!” He bolts about the house, the scarf on his neck trailing behind him. The rest of his day is amazing, and he goes to sleep dreaming of tomorrow. But when he awakens the next morning, he finds himself outside the barn. But the barn had collapsed. It was still on fire. “G-grandma? Damien?” Hex calls. “GRANDMA! DAMIEN!” Hex screams. He runs up to the burning barn, calling for his grandma and brother. “Hex!” Calls Damien. “Damien!” Hex runs up to pull his brother out. He successfully dislodges his trembling brother. “Where’s grandma?” Hex says, staring deep into his brother’s eyes. “She-she-“ Damien trembles. “She saved you, then came back to save me.” Damien says.

“But the building- the building-“ Damien starts to tear up, a dead look in his eyes. “NO!” Hex screams. “NOOOOOOOO!” “GRANDMA!” Hex yells, bolting around the collapsed barn. “GRANDMA, WHERE ARE YOU?” He circles back and collapses next to his brother. “Grandma…” Hex cries to himself until he is completely exhausted, and passes out. When he wakes, Damien is no longer beside him. “Damien?” Hex calls to the darkness. “Damien, where did you go?” Hex calls. “Damien?” Hex was now a lone cat, stranded in the wilderness. It was tough, and every day he would just barely hold on to the little scrap of life he had left. One night, he is brutally wounded, and gasping for breath.He stumbled upon a seance being performed by unusual cats, apparent witches and warlocks. He stumbles out, and collapses in front of the cats, begging for help. He passes out, thinking that was going to be his final day. He insteads wakes up the next morning, feeling fresh and healthy.

He blinks and stares into the bright green eyes of his savior. He looks to the right to see bright yellow eyes, and to the left he sees pink. He blinks again and stumbles back into a tree trunk, with the cats coming into deeper focus. They seem worried, all of them with a unique eye color and witch hats. The cat with green eyes and a necklace full of fireflies takes a step forward. Hex deeply flinches, springing into the sky, and grabs a pawful of tree. He scrambles up it, and climbs to the top branch, where he stops. “Oh, come down here!” Calls the pink eyed cat “We’re not here to hurt you!” “How am I supposed to know what you’re saying is true?” Says Hex. “For all I know, you could sacrifice me to a flower.” Hex hisses. “That’s ridiculous.” Says the green eyed cat. “Why would we sacrifice anything to a flower?” The cat calls. “Yeah, especially not after we healed you.” Calls the yellow eyed cat. “Wait, you-?” Hex stutters. He had hardly noticed.

He glances down to see all his wounds have healed, even his scars are gone. “Yes!” The yellow eyed cat says. “Actually we also found something… unique about you.” “Wh-what? he calls. “What is it???” “You’re like us!!!” They all call at once. “What do you mean by that-“ Hex begins. “You have a power!” The yellow eyed cat says. “ I do?” Hex says, dumbfounded. “Yeah! Just fly on down, buddy.” The green eyed cat says. “WHaT” Hex says. “Just jump.” Says the pink eyed cat. “ARE YOU CRAZY???” Hex screeches. “JUST DO IT.” Screams the green eyed cat. In Hex’s shock, he falls back and tips off the top of the tall tree. Hex screams. He knows if he hits the ground he’ll be smushed. He curls up, ready to impact, but instead poofs in a cloud of red dust, and hovers a few steady feet off the ground. “What-t…?” He trembles, and peeks around. The witch cats all grin at him from below him. “Take a look.” The green eyed cat says, and holds up a piece of a broken mirror. “I-I’m…” Hex stutters. “A bat? Yeah, you’re a bat.”

Says the pink eyed cat. Hex swoops down and lands, and in another puff of dust he is back to normal. “Well, I guess you’re one of us now.” Says the yellow eyed cat. “I am??” Says Hex. “Yep!” Says the pink eyed cat. “Welcome to the cult!” All “years” are in cat years, btw. Not human years. Hahahahahaha this sucks ass lmao
