Years after the events that took place on Pantala. Sometime after the rule of queen Ruby of the skywings, and a time in the very late years of Queen Glory and Queen Snowfall- A dragonet stumbles upon a path that leads her to a dark road. This is the story of Jay. The little hybrid practically bounced with excitement. The four year old dragonet was going to meet her father for the first time in her life. Even better yet, she was going to get to LIVE with him! They couldn’t get to the tunnel that would take them to the kingdom of sand fast enough. Her mother, a rainwing named Parakeet, watched her with a bitter sweet look. On one claw she was happy that her dragonet was so excited. On the other, she knew it’d be a few years before she’d be back in the rainforest. Still she could always visit.

Soon the duo stood before the foreboding entrance, the dragonet looked at it. Most of her scales turned a few shades paler as she grew more nervous. Her mother gently nudged the side of her wing with her own, “It’s okay, I promise”. The dragonet nodded, but still didn’t move. Parakeet put a wing over her daughter, gently guiding her into and through the tunnel. It was hot when the duo stepped out again, but the sun felt amazing on the dragonet's scales. The little hybrid basked in the light, smiling happily. As her mother laughed lightly, “We’re going to wait a bit here. Your father should be here soon”. They didn’t have to wait long, soon enough a sandwing, barring a few scars, came by wearing a massive smile on his face. Parakeet perked up immediately, “Burrow!” “Parakeet!” the sandwing, Burrow, exclaimed happily, opening his wings and holding out an arm as the rainwing hugged him. “It is so good to see you,” he looked over behind Parakeet, stopping as he looked at the dragonet.

The rainwing stepped away, smiling warmly at the two, “Burrow, this is Jay your-”. “Daughter?” he cut her off, the smile on his face growing wider as he approached the dragonet. He laid down, before rolling over onto his back rather dramatically. Making Jay giggle. “Hello Jay,” he said, his eyes practically glittering as he spoke, “I'm your dad”. -A few years later- Life in the scorpion den had changed Jay very quickly. A year in she’d had enough of some of the other dragonets telling her to go back to the rainforest. So who could really blame her when she shot a bit of venom at them? She hadn’t killed anyone, and she hardly thought that she needed a supervisor after that moment. Her father was being paranoid, if anything that incident should have shown him she could take care of herself.

At least she learned something, she quite enjoyed it when dragons got what they deserved. It was likely that incident that got her where she was, dodging her father and the members of his little group, and taking assassination jobs. It was rather funny to her, Burrow was trying to catch and stop the elusive assassin that didn’t leave a trace. Who’s tribe varied on the dragons he asked. The hybrid had gotten quite good with disguising herself over time, it also helped she went by Scale when doing jobs. And, ‘Scale’ depending on the dragon was maybe a sandwing, or an icewing, maybe a skywing, heck some even suggested a silkwing! Jay was as elusive as the wind, it definitely helped that she normally didn’t use her venom on assassination jobs. No burn marks, nothing frozen, no traces of silk.

Recently the eight year old dragonnet had found a flier. The flier wasn’t one asking for an assassin for higher, but an invite to any dragon interested in participating in gladiator matches. It was being hosted by Queen Cinder, who’d taken the skywing thrown a few years before Jay had hatched. She had completely remade the area her grandmother Queen Scarlet had. And, best yet, the prize was a small portion of the queen’s treasure. The prize would be more than enough for her father to add any kind of quality of life advancement in the scorpion den. Really, she’d be doing this for her father. At least, that’s what she told herself when she lied about going to visit her mother, instead making her way to the sky kingdom. ... Jay stood in between two taller dragons, a mudwing to her left, and very angry looking sandwing to her right. There had to be at least 20 dragons there, including herself. And, all of them looked up at the skywing queen.

“So, as you should all know from the posters, these will be fights to the death. You may forfeit any battle at any time if you don’t wish to die,” she hummed a bit, “Now a few rules, well only one really. And that is, no venom, or fire, or frost breath or anything like that. Nothing besides your teeth and claws. I wouldn’t want a hivewing to parallelize their opponent before killing them, that's no fun”. A few of the dragons around Jay looked rather peeved about that rule. “If anyone does break the one rule I have, then the match will end and the rule breaker will be disqualified. Now, all of you rest up, the matches begin tomorrow,” with that the queen turned and left.

Some guards came about, showing Jay and the others to guest quarters. They had to share rooms for the time being, but soon enough that would change. Jay closed her eyes once she got comfortable on her bedding. Tomorrow she’d start winning battles to get that prize for her father. A few deaths in order to benefit so many others, it was more than a fair exchange in her eyes. The battles had been going great for Jay. She was so nimble she was rarely even scratched by her opponent. Some of her opponents in the beginning had forfeited and left with their hides intact, but that happened to most of the dragons who stayed. But that didn’t matter, because Jay was so close to winning. All that stood between her and the prize was a hivewing named Assassin. It was kind of fitting they’d be the two left, Assassin against Jay.

Their fight was chaotic, blood roared in Jay’s ears. Nearly every time she’d manage to hit the hivewing they got a hit on her. They were just both so nimble. It was a fight of endurance now, whoever tired first would be weak enough for the other to attack. Knowing this Jay stopped her attacks, dodging the hivewing, letting them tire out. And after a few minutes of doing that, she saw an opening. She’d just dodged again, the hivewing’s breaths were labored, and they didn’t recover as quickly. Jay took her chance, jumping on top of the hivewing, and clamping her teeth down on their neck. Then it was all over in an instance. Jay triumphantly looked out at the crowd of cheering dragons, a smile on her face. That’s when she made eye contact with Burrow, her father’s eyes were wide and full of disbelief. Jay looked him dead in the eyes and announced, “I never wanted to be the villain. But if I have to for the benefit of meany, so be it”.
