So let’s look at the facts here Giygas’ form in earthbound is a foggy, misty form And is never described or shown as a physical creature, except in his original game

And the red mist is shown to not be a physical creature, but well Red mist Just like giygas

What giygas does to things it influences, can be shown as changes in skin, and causing the creatures to become sentient and hostile, or if they’re already sentient, it makes them hostile as well

The red mist does something quite similar While it doesn’t necessarily give people blue skin, like giygas It does give people bulbous, red eyes

And on top of that, it does cause people to become hostile and insane Wouldn’t you know it, just like giygas

What does this mean? I dont know But remember, that’s just a theory A gay-me theory
