Duos in Pokemon always have duos on both sides, it's counted as unfair if its just two Pokemon vs one. Thats why in Pokemon, you can't do duo battles without two or more Pokemon. If one trainer was teamed on, the trainers that teamed on them, are more likely a bad person.
