O K A Y before i say anything else, I just wanna tell anyone new here that I am a HUGE Mega Man fan (and fyi I got it on virtual console). As most people of my generation, I was introduced to him on his debut for smash 4. I was like "Oh boy, I wonder what game he's from", and then after playing I was like "JESUS CHRIST I'M SORRY I ASKED". I don't know why i'm doing the 3rd game, probably because It's one of my favorites, but with that out of the way, I'm gonna sorta do a story time of my experience with this game.
I started off with spark man, and BOY THAT LEVEL WAS HARD. It starts off simple enough, with little cyclops guys walking around, and a few projectiles here and there, but nothing too bad until you get to the Hammer Joe. Hammer Joe's (the guy in the bottom left corner) are some of the tougher enemies in the game, but fortunately, you can just shoot this one from below. Then after that are these platforms that shoot up once you stand on them. That part was annoying but the section with them at the end was BY FAR the most brutal. You see, you have to snipe Enemies that are temporarily invincible after spawning in. After barely scraping by that section, I had to face spark man himself. He isn't the toughest boss, as he only shoots 8 electric bolts across the screen, and 1 directly toward you and jumps around a bit, but He's among the easier bosses.
After defeating him, you unlock the spark shot. It's only slightly more powerful than the starting weapon, the mega buster, but It comes in handy if you want to take on Magnet Man earlier than usual. AND SPEAKING OF MAGNET MAN, oh boy, his level is tough. And it's not even most of it. Other than the Proto Man battle at the beginning of the stage, it looks like smooth sailing, until you get to the teleporting block room. To make THAT section EVEN WORSE, the people at Capcom Had the nerve to put magnets that pull you in all across the room. Magnet man isn't tough either, but his magnet shield can be kind of annoying, beating him gets you the Magnet Missile, which is one of the more useful weapons in the game.
After duking out with Magnet Man, It's time to jump into the mines and go after (get ready) HARD MAN. But before you can even get there, you have to deal with one of the most annoying enemies in the game: F U C K I N G. B E E S. (Well, their cannon name is Subees, but let me explain). After spawning in, they go to in front of your current y-axis, and drop a bee hive (hopefully) next to you. The beehive will spawn six smaller bees, called Chibees (ik creative name). They chase you relentlessly until you go to the next screen. After Proto man again, you face the most CREATIVELY NAMED ENEMY IN THE GAME(,sarcasm), Returning Monkey. But unlike it's Mega Man 2 Predecessor, they do NOT monkey around (pun alert) They swing on the ceiling, and once you go under them, they chase you down like WOLVES. Hard Man himself is definitely the toughest boss so far, as he causes earthquakes, and launches rocket-propelled punches at you. I took him down with only ONE HP LEFT.
Beating him gives you the Hard Knuckle, a weapon used for tearing through certain walls, and one of the easiest bosses in the game, but my dumb-ass didn't go to him for a reason I'll explain later, but I chose Snake Man as my next opponent, and his stage is WAY over-themed. You see, his stage is on bricks resembling snake scales. The background is the same, most of the exclusive enemies as well. (For some reason, the ladders aren't snake themed, though). The only part that isn't really snake-themed is a very out-of-place sky segment, with cloud platforms and missiles. Snake Man, however, is the most noteworthy part of his stage. For starters, his arena is very awkward, with a big pillar in the piddle, and small holes in on the floor. Snake Man himself runs around the room, occasionally shooting off two or three mini-snakes. They crawl around on the room until they hit the ceiling. This fight is MUCH tougher than It sounds, and beating him gets you the Search Snake, a weapon that also crawls on the walls.

Now I can finally tell you why I didn't go for the easiest boss in the game Top Man. It's not his fight, he just spins around the room, and throws 3 tops in the air which follow you briefly, before doing it again. It's not the platforming either, NO, the toughest part about Top Man is his Mini-boss. These giant Garfield-looking bois, that throw yarn balls and fleas at you. THE YARN TAKES FOREVER TO DESTROY, AND HE ALWAYS THROWS TWO, YOU CAN ONLY HIT THE FLEAS WHEN THE'RE JUMPING, CAUSE THEIR SO DAMN SMALL, AND YOU ARE IN A SUPER SMALL ROOM. COMBINED WITH IT'S ABSOLUTELY BLOATED HEALT COUNT, AND MASSIVE DAMAGE OUTPUT, I AM HAPPY TO PUT THAT CAT DOWN.
With the war on cat's officially over, and dogs taking over as #1 pet, it's time for some pest control in the sewers. Shadow Man's stage isn't that bad, other than the Proto Man fight, and some breaking platforms and projector guys, his stage isn't that bad until you get to Shadow Man himself. He is by far the most unpredictable of the 8 robot masters. He can slide across the room, throw ninja stars, and jump insanely high. The worst part, however, is his weakness, Top Man's, Top Spin. The weapon is one of the worst in the series, but It does have at least 1 use outside of here, but I'll get to that later. The Top Spin is definitely the best weapon for the fight, but it's weapon energy is literally random. You could have a full weapon bar, and it suddenly gets cut in half from 1 use. Fortunately, Shadow Man's Shadow Blade is one of the better weapons in the game.
Now before I begin this next one, I want to tell you how this game's boss weaknesses are split up, and how It SHOULD be split up. You see, a traditional Mega Man game has you taking out 1 boss with the mega buster, and then doing the rest with their weaknesses. THIS GAME HAS YOU TAKING OUT 2, considering the last 2 robot masters are in a little separate group with Snake Man. Now with that out of the way, it's time to go to the high seas and take out Needle Man.
Needle man was tough, I thought his weakness was the Search snake, but, no it's the next weapon, which i'll talk about after Needle Man. His stage isn't that bad as well, other than a few crushers, Some turrets, and some Hedgehog robots named Harry Harry, but you get a suspicion once you see 2 Giant Shells under some debris. You can't look at that now, though, You're at Needle Man. He was the toughest robot master for me, because of his stupid accuracy with his needle cannon. The needle cannon, surprisingly, one of the better boss weapons in the game. Now There is only one more boss before doctor Wily's Castle, Gemini Man.
WERE ON THE ****ING MOON, *****ES. After animal genocide with the Cat Robot, Its time to kill some Penguin robots too. Before halfway in the stage, you find Proto Man once again, but He doesn't fight you. Instead, he destroys a hatch concealing the rest of the level. After some annoying Pods that release enemies, you come across a tricky platforming section, unless you got The Rush upgrades. (I forgot to mention rush jet and marine before, but here you go) Rush marine is a lot better in this part, though. Gemini Man is the first robot master to have multiple phases. The first, he creates a clone that circles the room with directly across from him, both shooting a small blast at you once you do the same. After the clone is defeated, He switches his strategy and uses the Gemini Laser, a thin beam that bounces off the walls. Unfortunately, you can't make a clone (at least not in this game) but the Gemini Laser is useful on many occasions, if you can get around the massive lag It causes.
HOLD ON TO YOUR SEAT THERE PAL, CAUSE UR NOT GOIN 2 WILY YET. He still has one last trick up his sleeve: DOC ROBOT. You have to fight this bastard EIGHT TIMES, but at least the reason is cool. Using the remaining data of the robot masters of Mega Man 2, Wily uploads them into Doc Robot, making him eight robots in one. You travel through tougher versions of Spark Man, Needle Man, Gemini Man, and Shadow Man, fighting him twice in all of them. After that, you have to face Proto Man 1 Last Time, and THEN you can go to Wily Castle.
The wily stages are as tough as they've ever been, with insta-kill spikes, pits for those spikes, and a boss rush. Capcom even had the BALLS to bring back Yellow Devil, and leave out the pause glitch, (which was, lets be honest, the only way to beat Yellow Devil). With Copy robot's return, as well as a weird robot turtle-making machine as well, You can finally take on Wily in his 3rd Wily Machine, but here's the thing: THAT'S NOT THE FINAL BOSS.
Turns out Wily had a Plan B, the massive robot named Gamma. You can take out the top with the hard knuckle. "But what about the second phase?" I hear you asking. Well remember when I said the Top Spin "had at least 1 use?" That's Right, the final boss's weakness is the WORST WEAPON IN THE GAME. And that's not the best part, oh no. The Top Spin takes it out in (Get Ready)...
O N E H I T
After spinning wily's castle to the ground, Congratulations, You Have beaten Mega Man 3!
