try shaping the head differently? Maybe that'll make them look more "human!"

Shapes define a character Whether cartoony or realistic, you can see shapes in people. (Rounder bodies, rounder shapes, skinnier bodies, rectangle shapes, etc etc) Not only does the shape of a character define them, but it also gives a glimpse into their personality too. (Sharp edged characters may be rude, edgy, angry, etc, meanwhile rounded edge characters may be quite, soft-spoken, timid, etc)
