Link The birds, the humans and the mermaids.
Prologue: once in this world there were only humans, but one day one third of the colony moved to the sea because they were angry at the human king. The very next day one half of the human colony moved to the tree tops. The human king became angry at the humans that moved away and called them fish and birds. The names stuck and the separate colonys called themselves the mermaids and the birds. After 1000 years of the birds and the mermaids proving themselves, the sorcerers that had learned magic in the human colony turned them into mermaids and humanoid birds as punishment this actually made life easier for the two colonys. At this point the birds and the mermaids had elected a king. King Kaiyo was the king of the mermaids and king Hiko was the king of the birds. The three kings met and agreed that the different races must be kept separate from one another. that was until 12 years ago when the bird king fell in love with a human.

I'm in a pool. A big one. The pool is surrounded by stone statues of Greek gods and goddesses. I look to the center of the pool and the pool is filled with mermaids. I heard one of the mermaids gasp and I observed her. She had short brown hair and green eyes. She had a small button nose and a teal tail. She was accompanied by a large boy that was about thirteen. He had ocean blue hair and brown eyes. His tail was green like the leaves on the tree of the sky's. There where about ten or so more mermaids in the pool, all different shapes and sizes.
It's not that strange of a place for mermaids...but it is for me.
