How you can avoid this kinda stuff from my experience is: Take real life issues, lessons, or types of people to have conflict or personal issues for your oc. This will give your character more of a realistic feel and makes it more interesting, no ones cares about your rainbow princess that is depressed because he ex boyfriend died from a galactic fight. Don't have but like a handful of over powered ocs, but make them beatable and not super annoying. I'm not saying you can't have over powered characters, I myself have some. If you are going to have them though, give them a purpose, make them have some reason why they are, make them bearable and make them show off how depressed, or powerful or whatever all the time. Let it slowly show and give a reason why there is conflict and give them the ability to die or there is no real reason why they should struggle or whatever. Don't copy other people. If you copy someone, it's not unique and will often times just be a more annoying version of the original.

Use symbolism. If you symbolize certain things, then not everything is shoved in someone's face about how your oc is. Maybe if your character has a dark past then maybe give them dark clothing or maybe have them keep something with them that represents what happened. Do some research. Look up different animals, plants disorders or whatnot and maybe add that to your character. It makes them stand out and just over all makes them more interesting than just a normal oc.

Now this is all I have to say, you of course don't have to go by what I say, but if you do struggle with making decent or good ocs then I suggest that you do take a few of these points into concentration.
