The small patched tabby she-cat’s ears drooped, as well as her tail, as she padded over to where the Leafclan cats were sitting. Dustpaw grumbly followed, gloomed. Hivestar glanced at the younger tom, “Mangledstar. Would you like to go first?” The matted tom nodded, licking his fang before speaking. “Fadedclan is doing well. Some of our houses still need being built, but other than that, we’re doing good. The rats are running well. We have two new Warriors, Specklecream and Stormhawk.” “Stormhawk, Specklecream!” The Clans cheered along, until Quartzfur ahemed. Mangledstar nodded. “That is all.” “Alright. I shall go. Crystalclan has been good. We have no new kits or Apprentices. We’d like to report however: Rubystar has retired, and I’ll be discussing with Starclan tomorrow. Bumblefern has been a good replacement for Emeraldspeck.” Tallpine glared at the gray tom. Bumbefern blinked, and glared back. The brown tom spoke up. “Why send a Leafclan cat?”

“He has a lot of training in medicine.” Huffed Hivestar, “It was better than leaving Crystalclan without any Medicine Cats.” Flutterstar tapped her tail on the branch. “Hivestar, would you want to go?” “Yes,” Hivestar nodded, “Leafclan has been doing well. We have a surplus of honey we’re ready to trade away. Along with that, we have two new Apprentices, Dustpaw and Mintpaw, and a new Warrior, Badgerbumble.” “Mintpaw! Dustpaw! Badgerbumble!” The cats shouted. Hivestar purred, “Flutterstar?” The yellow she-cat stood up. “Meadowclan is doing… well.” She twitched her ear. “All our cats are healing well and… Er- We have a new Apprentice. Lionpaw.” “Lionpaw! Lionpaw!” The cats yowled. “And- Er- That’s all.” “Very well.” Hivestar glanced out, and chattering exploded.- Brisknose turned to Stingfoot, to try and start a conversation. Stingfoot turned away. “So… How’s having new kits in Leafclan?” “Good… One is sickly though.” Brisknose perked his ears. “Which one?”

“The albino one. Who else would it be?” “Er- Well it could have been Otterkit…” “Maybe…. But albino kits are more likely to be sick.” “Isn't he only the second one the Clans have ever had?” “I think so. Or the third.” Brisknose looked up as Quartzfur called his name. “I er- I have to go.” Quartzfur was already rowding the Clan to leave, as small specks of snow began to flicker. “Yes?” He asked as he trotted over. “We’re leaving.” He nodded. “Ok.” Bumblefern sighed, “Do you think they miss me?” “Stingfoot didn’t say anything.” “Darn… No she-cats even mentioned me?” Brisknose rolled his eyes, walking away. Bumblefern followed Quartzfur. *** Beedew flopped into her den, falling on top of the sleeping Sunset. He woke up with a yelp. “Sorry…” Beedew licked his cheek. “How do you think Bumblefern is?” “He looked sad. I didn’t get any time to talk to him, sadly.” “Weren’t you sitting near him?” “Yes, but Nighttail wanted to talk to him about stupid stuff: like poppyseeds.” Bee

Beedew hissed. “Do you have something against her?” “No. She’s just mousebrained sometimes.” “I mean, you don’t have regular meetings, so maybe it was good for her to talk about medicine.” “Yes… I guess you have a point.” “Anyway, what herb will I learn today, eh?” She laughed, “Catmint.” “I think I’ve heard of that.” “It’s amazing! So amazing in fact we had to hide it away.” “Where?” “In the den where we decided to become mates” “Why so deep in the forest?” “So no kits or Apprentices would get into it.” “So, what is it used for?” “To treat super bad coughs…” “Like whitcough or greencough?” “Exactly!” Sunset purred. “I do think I’m learning well.” He boasted, half-closing his eyes. Beedew nuzzled him, “Oh you are!” “Good!” Beedew purred and yawned. “Should we go and get it or not?” “Let’s do it tomorrow.” “Ok.”

*** Snakekit was padding around in the nursery. Suddenly- POW! Vixenkit tackled her. The white she-cat hurrfed! and grabbed his shoulder with her claws. Vixenkit swiftly dodged and slammed her paws to the ground, and high kicked her shoulder. “Ow!” She yelled, biting his paw. Vixenkit hissed and bit back. Oddly, he was strong, like a big cat… “Letgoletgoletgo!” Snakekit yowled. “No!” Vixenkit bit harder and dug his claws in. “Jasperwhisker!” She shouted, trying to push him away. “What?!” She called out, irked that her meal was disrupted. “Vixenkit won’t stop hurting me!” She huffed and walked in, and pulled Vixenkit off, who hissed. “Hey! Stop it!” he squeaked, and his glare fell onto his sister. “I did nothing to you!” Snakekit squeaked. “I was just playing!” “You wouldn’t let go and it hurt!” “Snakekit,” She put Vixenkït down, “Show me.” The little she-cat showed her mother the bleeding bite marks in her shoulder. Jasperwhiser huffed, “Go to Bumblefern.”

Snakekit got up and headed out, walked on the far side of the nursery. Bumblefern was outside his den, diddling with the medicine and crystals. “Bumblefeeeern.” “Whaaaaat?” “I have scratches and bites.” “How?” “Vixenkit.” “Oh. Well, come in.” He walked into his den. Snakekit followed him into the herb-smelling den. Quickly, Bumblefern fumbled with the herbs and began licking her. “Ow.” “Shhh,” Bumblefern gently placed a layer of chewed medicine on her shoulder. Snakekit flinched. “It stings!” “Do you want an infection?” He glanced at her. “No…” “Then deal with it.” Snakekit folded her ears back and twitched her tail. Bumblefern licked her head, “Can you do an apprentice thing for me?” She looked up. “Sure.” “Get me some moss. It’s inside the Elder’s den, the rock behind where Rubystar sleeps.” Snakekit nodded. “Okay!” She bounded out of the Medicine Cat den, hopping into the Elder’s den. The Elders were close, and grooming each other. The little she-cat wove around them. “Snakekit?” Croaked

Rubystar. “I’m just getting moss!” “Ah, how sweet, eh?” She looked at the other Elders. Nightflower pointed her tail to a big pile of moss at the back of the den. “There’s some over there.” “Yup.” Rubystar twitched. The white she-cat padded over to it, grabbing some in her mouth. “Fanks!” She said, with her mouth full of moss. “Yeah!” Rubystar suddenly fell onto her side, and yowled. She shook. Snakekit dropped the moss onto the floor. “Rubystar!” Rubystar yowled, and shook more. Her voice turn twisted: “Beware the shadow that will cause the stars to fade. Beware the fox that will cause the stars to fade. The ashes will fall and the blood will flood before there is peace.” Snakekit blinked. “Rubystar?”

She laid, silent and motionless, on the ground. Snakekit nudged her and Blackwhisker stood up. She didn’t even twitch. Nightflower ran out to get Bumblefern. Bumblefern looked at her, confused. “Rubystar needs you!” Bumblefern shut his mouth for once, and ran in- Where Rubstar was coughing up whoops of life. Swiftly, Bumblefern began to rush her away. “Stop it!” Rubystar battered the tom, slashing his face. “Rubystar calm down!” Snakekit meowed. “Oh silence, kit. I just had a vision.” She hissed. Blackwhisker started fussing over her. Rubystar twriled around, “I’m fine, Blackwhisker.”
