LinkFor art you want to look good, Please actually to proportions and the skeletal sketches!! Plot out where the eyes, no, shoulders, paws, etc will be. This will help your art look more fluid or put together

LinkRemember when drawing, that the closer an object is to the screen/view it will be bigger. This means if a hand is reaching towards the screen it will look larger. This makes art pop out instead of looking 2d

Linkwhen drawing realistic fur, make sure you use references to plot our what direction the fur or hair flows. For canines right by the necks their fur will clash together where the fur from the back flows downwards and under belly fur often flows up.

LinkFor animal legs notice how their joints are just the same as humans, just placed differently

LinkOn flip anim when doing fur start with a solid primary color, shade that shape, then add secondary and tertiary colors as small lines with low opacity. This is how I did fur for the blue fox and feathers for the purple crow

LinkTry and practice new things. The more flexible your artistic ability is, the better artist you are! If you do digital all the time, try traditional art! If you do cartoons, practice other styles. Do you always have your characters or refs facing to the left? Draw them to the right!

LinkListen to all you artists! Take and give criticism! When people ask for criticism on their art, they don’t mean just go and say “It’s perfect!” Or even “It’s bad anyway” ALL I repeat ALL art can become better! There’s is no such thing a perfect art, due to perfection being in the eye of the beholder. This means that even if you think something is perfect, it doesn’t mean everyone else does!
I’m also not saying to just take it when someone is being rude about art. For some people there’s is a small difference from true criticism and bullying, but remember what everyone says is an opinion. It does not matter what anyone’s opinion is! The only opinion that matters is your own,

LinkFor new artists or ones who do really simple drawings:
Remember joints! A big problem I used to have is when I drew animals with their legs bent, maybe like in mid-walk, I always had their legs curved. It almost looked like their limbs were straight rubber with no bones or anything. This is why you should sketch out where joints are, this is what I meant by a skeletal sketch

LinkWhen designing an oc, make sure your colors flow together. Designers and artists like -Nightshade- are amazing at this. If you looks at -Nighteshade-‘s designs, their color pallets are all diluted or pastel colors which blend amazingly together. Bright, neon colors and diluted colors don’t often look well together, if you want to use bright colors, use them for the whole design, you want pastel purple or lavender? The colors around it will usually match better is they are as pastel or diluted.

LinkKeep in mind people have VERY diverse artstyles and for some artists certain details don’t translate all that well. When showing people an oc to draw please tell them the species of the oc! Many artstyles make canines and felines look incredibly similar, which may cause confusion. This is not to be rude, this is just a common problem people with simple artstyles have that can be easily fixed
