Um... practice XD Look at real-life images of the creature you're trying to draw and study how body parts fit together and move. But yeah, it's mainly practice.

Oh XD Use the paint roller, to make something darker just paint roll with a darker shade of grey, to lighten paint roll with a lighter shade of grey.
