LinkNumbers. Numbers are a construct, a concept that is crucial to our fleeting existence. Humans, an uncountable amount of time ago, created this concept for menial tasks, for reasons that we cannot name. These numbers have become a part of our species, to the point of which if numbers were to suddenly become an unfamiliar and unusable concept, it would mean the total and utter collapse of society, and possibly even the death of human-kind. Born from the concept of numbers, is birthed the second most important concept of human conceiving, time. Time is used to measure existence through a numerical system, much as you would measure height, volume, mass, etc, although much more complicated. The smallest common form of measurement of existence is a second. Seconds occur frequently, almost simultaneously to each other. Sixty of these seconds are grouped in a minuet, sixty minuets are an hour, twenty four hours are a day, seven days are a week, an approximation of 3.5-4 weeks are a month, twelve months

Link(each with their own respective names) are one year, ten years are a decade, ten decades are a century, 100 centuries are a millennia, and so on, using each new time concept to the power of two to get to the next. Humans enjoy the celebration of a new year, as the smaller time measurements are too fleeting and common, and the larger are too infrequent for the impatient majority of civilization. The end of the larger measurements are a cause for more exuberant festivities, which is what makes today more special than the other annual celebrations. It is the dawn of a new decade, and this marks a century since the most special time that occurred in the years 1920=1928, referred to as the Roaring Twenties. However, this time period was followed by the stock market crash of 1929, and the great depression, which, due to human superstition, makes the year of 2029 a slightly tedious one on the back of our minds. Linkand creating a list of responsibilities that almost none of the population will fully fulfill by next year, I would like to take time to reflect on what use we have made of this silly concept that our lives depend on, and wonder if any of it mattered in the end. Trick question, none of our lives matter in the grand scheme of things.
