Facts. The Bengal tiger is found primarily in India with smaller populations in Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, China and Myanmar. It is the most numerous of all tiger subspecies with more than 2,500 left in the wild.
Tigers are carnivores. They prefer hunting large ungulates such as chital, sambar, gaur, and to a lesser extent also barasingha, water buffalo, nilgai, serow and takin. Among the medium-sized prey species they frequently kill wild boar, and occasionally hog deer, muntjac and grey langur.
Their scientific name is Panthera Tigris Tigris.
They have a reddish orange coat with black or dark brown stripes. These stripes are generally in vertical direction and have a unique pattern.
A full grown male Bengal tiger can weigh up to 500 pounds and female can weigh up to 300 pounds. A male can reach up to 10 ft. and female can reach up to 9 ft. in height.
They have longer tails and heads in comparison to other species.
They are incredible hunters and generally prey on deer, buffalos, monkeys, birds etc
