Linki just read into the -russia- drama and yall- I GOT SOME NEWS FOR YOU...
1. the accusations that this person "stole" a style? incorrect
2.acting like yall the ones getting effected by this? totally unfair.
for starters, i'd like to point out something GLARINGLY obvious..nothing, and i mean NOTHING, is original anymore. and not to be starting even more drama, but FurryTrash's art style is not OG in ANY way. so to be so EGOTISTICAL to call a style your own and have people agree with you becuase you are more well known, only to tell people you can't use it? thats BS!
but as always, there is the other side to it. most times depression is never an excuse, and using it can be offensive to people who have depression. so it's almost never ok to say that.
and im going to drop a bomb here so prepare yourselves...-russia- did not copy art, she made her own with a similar style- she did not STEAL an art style, as you can not DO THAT.

Linkit is totally uncalled for to say "im pissed bcuz she so annoyin" when you have nothing to do with it. infact its p much gossip. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU ARE "COPYING A STYLE", IT IS LITERAL BULLYING.
most users on here arent old enough or socially adapted to make good decisions. so before you start sniffing the air for a mistake a KID made, think about what you are doing and what you've done. becuase HONESTLY....its terrible..imagine you being in that position. not saying she did this but here's my theory.
they thought since they arent exactly popping off the pages of everyone's searches, that she might take some aspects of a user she likes' style. totally cool right? apparently not. someone in the tight knit friend group calls em out, and now? what the beans? THE APPRAISED "OWNER" OF THE STYLE COMES DOWN AND SAYS YOU CAN'T DO THAT? SO NOW THE WHOLE SITES ON YOUR BACK..thats terrible..they said they were gonna leave, probably to throw attention off them but more likely cuz they don't know what to do,

Linkbut yall keep going at them. so what does that leave them? 3 options.
1. quit.
2. defend themselves (as most people in the situation would do)
3. move on

Linkalso, if you don't like someone, most people with half a brain would say walk away. the one that ends up looking like a jerk is the one that no matter what will come back and over and over again just to get in the last word and be spiteful. neither side of this dumb drama (if you could even call it drama..) is right. to me it seems a lot like bullying. one influential person starts it, and then everybody follows them to cover up whats wrong with them
Hey bro, don't mean to start anything between us, because we're good friends, but there's clearly some things that person didn't credit, and it's not even the style itself. I mean sure, the hostility people were showing that person afterwards was a bit unnecessary, but Russia wasn't entirely in the right either.
Not tryna start something dude, just my viewpoint on the matter
Ahshit i didn't word that right.
They made some OC's that were pretty similar to users outside of FA, they denied knowing about the characters, but later said they forgot to credit? I mean that seems a bit off to me.
Not even that, they proceeded to draw the genitals of a dog, and not mark it 18 plus, like come on dude, who wants to see that.
I mean i just stopped reading after like the third "apology" post, like i understand styles can't neccesarily be original, because i myself am a firm believer of "nothing is original as long as it's under the sun", i just got bothered when there was clear evidence of a character they either heavily referenced or i guess thought they could use as their own. But tbh, i don't know what's happening at this point
but that doesnt correlate to 'style'. infact, i could probably list off that all these oc's are just diffrently colored dogs. im sure you could find those anywhere.
i dont wanna cause trouble but these are facts. and if you look at it from a viewpoint of not following furrytrash, or someone just joining the sight, or heck, the -russia-?
Yep, like I said, don't really know what's going on at this point, and I agree with you on how hostility isn't necessarily needed in these situations, because like you stated, it messes people up. Idk who's involved at this point, I dunno why this is still going on, but hopefully it passes, and everything is fine.
Style theft doesn't exist, yeah.
The recent drama is about how she heavily referenced something without crediting. I don't know who the youtuber they referenced was, it's just kinda scummy I guess.
i mean, what everyone is mostly focused on is "style theft" right? but i haven't heard about this youtuber thing and i guess not many people either. what confuses me is, how this small site is going to flame this person over not crediting youtube. we arent IN youtube. this ISNT youtube. who is going to care outside of this community? and yeah you can say thats not cool, but i've seen death threats becuase they "forgot to credit". do you know what i mean?
I dont know what dramas going on but I'd like to make one thing clear about style stealing
for starters..yes..IT IS a real thing (but it depends, i'll get into that here). as I've stated before if a show looks like family guy, it looks like family guy
they're traits and ways of drawing certain things thats became/becomes popular to an individual to whom every copies it gets call an thief. ex: someone drawing in an adventure style artstyle then playing it off as there own..wouldn't you agree they're in a way "stealing" by playing off that this way of drawing a certain feature thats been popularized by another thats been social recognizable is of their own?
Theres a confusion in the art world between universal styles, art styles, and genres. for example!
drawing the (what I like to call) Steven universe cheek (all though very unoriginal) is something that you would draw because its.. a cheek..theres not a lot of ways on drawing cheeks depending on tone
(ex: cartoony, realistic, etc..) its all about how recognizable that trait of a style is. heres another good example. sonic the hedgehog, we all know the fanbase loves drawing him. to the point where fans make ocs..now lets say little jimmy draws his oc's so much, when he's older he pitches a show about his characters (still drawn in the sonic "style") and he brings em in to show cartoon network if they'd like the offer..what would be the first thing they say?
a. o those are cool characters
or b. that looks like sonic/ a sonic character (WHY???)
well as i stated, little jimmy drew his oc's looking like sonic characters..meaning his oc's have, big 2 connected eyes, long spikes, gloves, bean body, edgy sneakers, and a pointed nose..all those together makes you (DRUM ROLL PLEEEAASEEEE) budadadadadadada
a sonic character, BECAUSE THATS HOW LITERALLY ALMOST EVERY SONIC CHARACTER IS DRAWN (hopefully this little story made sense)
in short, style thief is real only when the thing they are stealing is recognizable and was MADE recognizable by another artist. again, common things like round eyes, that...REALLY annoying heart mouth, su cheeks (the "cal arts style cheeks") is universal meaning ANYONE can use it and not be called stealing, because again, its universal! but paws that was made popular by a user and that user only is stealing, because again, ur taking something that was recognizable and was MADE recognizable by another artist.
and...style doesn't only mean drawings. THAT CAN GO FOR ANYTHING! you make a horror game about ANY type of animatronic and tell me what ur comments say lmao
i really get your thoughts. very understandable. but that didnt happen in this situation. there was no pop culture style being used, and if you were new to this site and the first thing you saw were -russia-'s art, you might think, "hey, one of my favorite instagram artists draws this way." you probably wouldn't get on to them though. and you have to take into consideration what is deemed stolen and what is inspired, and where you are doing it and your motives. like if you are a small artist on a small website called FlipAnim, no one will really care if you drew a sonic like character. now, if you claim they are your own on a big website, say youtube, then things go south.
otherwise i completely agree with you and please ignore my spelling errors im tired
i totally agree with you, like no body's style is their style, everything is a derivative of another. And i do think that, yeah, if -Russia- practically copied an oc, and denied it, that could be bad. i haven't been following this drama though. And I kind of went through this on a different site, where it was some BnHA oc bullshit, and i thought of this really cool character, and her quirk was to be able to change into whatever tattoo she had, and there was this one person's oc that was made earlier than mine, and her quirk was that her tattoos came to life. and I was told that i copied that deign because they both had tattoo-related quirks, blonde hair, and big tits. obviously, i was pissed, because i worked HARD on that character. this gives off the same vibe, but honestly, i don't give a shit about the drama that goes on. I'm just here to share my art and all that other cheesy stuff.
