Jaxon doesn’t like smiling so much because he’s aware it looks like his father’s creepy ah smile. But he does have grinning as an automatic response from childhood when he genuinely believes he’s about to die. Given that his father who is a walking biohazard likes to keep him close that happens more often than he would like.

So there is a sign of life.
