"Finchpaw!" I awoke to see Sparkpaw right in my face. "AAAAH," I shouted, soon I recognized the face, "oh, uh I-" "C'mon do you want to be late for training?" "No, but I-" But before I could finish she bolted out the den. I walked out to the clearing to see Birdbiter talking to Rapidslide. He noticed me and said his goodbyes. He ran up, "Today we will learn to hunt," He spoke, "Its time you learned." "Would you be okay with training with Sparkpaw and Acorncatcher again?" "Yeah!" I yelped, barely containing my excitement, "Of course!" Back when Sparkpaw was Sparkkit we were playmates. I had lost all my siblings to greencough at a young age so Sparkkit would always play with me instead. I trotted excitedly to tell Sparkpaw. Soon we would be at the training hollow.

"Well, stop sitting there," Sparkpaw nagged me, "Lets go!" We dashed out to see Birbiter and Acorncatcher. Birdbiter smiled, "C'mon let's go."

As we neared the hollow, I walked closely behind Birdbiter. A new scent wafted over me, not the scent of cats, not fresh kill but something else. Anxiety pulsed throughout my body, my ears twitched wildly. I saw Birdbiter's eyes widen. My stomach churned. Watching it crawl through the undergrowth, my heart stopped beating as I heard the worst sound to ever come out of a cats mouth, "FOX!" Birdbiter's legs rapidly paced beneath him, "Finchpaw, get back to camp and warn the others. NOW." I couldn't. I stared. It lumbered toward me, I couldn't move. I saw my life flash before my eyes. It was like I was already dead, motionless, unable to think, and no longer breathing. Flying in the air a red ball crashed down on the fox, Sparkpaw! At first I was bewildered, then I was grateful, then I remembered that the giant red fox Sparkpaw just saved me from was about to kill Sparkpaw now! She was just apprenticed! How impulsive can you get? I didn't know whether to think Sparkpaw stupid, incredibly brave, or perhaps both.

I caught my breath and my mind landed back on earth, there was no time to question Sparkpaw's impulsive decisions. I needed to follow Birdbiter's orders. I needed to get to camp. Adrenaline rushed through my body, I ran and ran. I could hardly breathe, I wheezed and coughed, but continued running. This wasn't a matter of dealing with the pain I felt, but the pain or death that I'd imagined would soon come to Sparkpaw or even our mentors. I didn't know how geting injured by a fox would feel, but by the looks of the giant red monsters I wouldn't even wish it upon Orchidpaw, let alone Sparkpaw. Racing into camp, I yelled as loud as I could, "THUNDERCLAN!" I caught my breath, "A FOX IS IN THE TRAINING HOLLOW!" Orchidpaw sat grooming herself calmly like nothing happened, "and we should believe a wannabe kittypet why?-" A sharp scold from Snapshine cut her off, "Orchidpaw enough!" Snapshine knew the dangers of foxes well better than her, "We must go." Finally, cut the stalling we need to go now! I thought.

Sparkpaw could be dead by now, I couldn't wait for any organized patrols. I rushed through the bracken and four warriors followed alongside. We couldn't stop to breathe. Wheezing, we quickly raced up to the hallow. Terror flashed in my eyes. The fox was reared up about to take the last blow on Acorncatcher. Birdbiter was bloodied, barely being able to summon strength to walk. And Sparkpaw? she lay like a piece of freshkill on the ground. Again, I felt paralyzed. Like I was no longer there, in some other place maybe. I could only watch as I saw Lizardrose and Snapshine pounce on the fox. Arnicadusk and Sorrelpad tried to help Birdbiter up. But I stared. Rapidslide joined to fight off the fox. Still, I was no help. An owl could have taken me away in that moment and I would never have known. I only saw Sparkpaw's laid out body, Acorcatcher's bloody scars and Birdbiter's injured body. To think only this morning I had been happily trotting. And now I saw my clanmates in front of me, dying.

Meanwhile I had got out unscathed. I choked my tears. I couldn't even notice that the fox had run off, tail between its legs. I helped drag Acorncatcher and Birdbiter into camp. While our medicine cat made work of them. I saw Snapshine drag in Sparkpaw. I didn't want to look. I wasn't really there, only my body was.
