Actually, christ was probably born during the summer months. It's called Christmas because it's a celebration of Christ's birth, not necessarily his birthday. Also, it's on the day that it is because Christians wanted an equivalent to Yule, a pagan holiday on/around the same day. So people would have something "pure" to do instead.
