Moon’s Words A black and white tom, sat on the wood fence. Wind blew gently and mice scurried by. He glared hungirly at them, wanting to try one. The cat raised his paw. Ready to leap down, only to get interrupted. “Moon! Moon!” a red and white kit panted running along the fence. Another one came running over. “Moon, we need your help!” gasped the mottled she-kit. Moon moved his round head slowly, his eyes soft. “Robin and Rascal.” he dipped his head in hello. These two were littermates, and his neighbors. “What seems to be the problem?” sitting down he flicked his tail. Robin sagged, embarrassed and Rascal hissed his ears flattened. Judging by their behavior , he guessed what was wrong. Moon sighed “Dragon eh?” he mewed softly. The two kits shook their heads bitterly. Dragon, as fierce as his name sounds, is the bully of these streets. “Only, he's gotten worse! This time he told this huge brown dog “Fang” to go after us!” Rascal’s fur puffed up in fear. “Mhm” Robin's eyes were wide as if she were still in

Moon stared at the two surprised. - Dragon must be upset that I taught the tkits how to avoid him - Moon mused to himself. “Well.. I might have a solution but,” he looked up at the sky, stars loomed above. “ Why don't we go have a good night's rest?” he sat up, the fence wobbling. Robin and Rascal solemnly said yes, wandering back to their twolegs nest. Feeling drowsy, Moon took one more glance at the pair. Then jumped down into his garden. He sighed, tomorrow would be interesting. Moon Stretched and curled up, soon fast asleep. Moon woke up suddenly, birds flew by distressed. A loud barking noise chilled him to the bone. Claws raked at the fence, giving a horrible eerie sound. “ You're lucky you're in your precious garden!” cackled a familiar voice. Moon heaved himself up, staring at a sneering red cat. “You tell that dog to stand down, or you'll be a danger to yourself Dragon!” he spat. Suddenly Dragon looked defeated. “No,no,nonono NO! Bad dog, obey my wo-” Fang was rushing towards easy prey,

or Dragon’s tail in this case. Moon watched in horror as the dog ripped the poor cat off the fence. Shrieking in pain, Dragon jumped off, the dog close behind. Moon's paws seem to control themselves, taking him towards the chase. He leaped swiftly over the fence, slamming down on the hard white path. Little stones scattered noisily. For a split second there was silence, the bully had tripped. Racing down the streets, he growled running faster than ever. From the corner of his eye Moon noticed how Robin and rascal were watching from a distance, startled. Moon shook his head and turned his attention back to the dog and Dragon. Fang growled, licking her jaws. Sticky slobber ran down her chin onto Dragon's muzzle. Moon was jolted by an idea. He pounced behind the Fang, whom whipped around growling menancely. Moon growled crouching down, spiking his fur to appear bigger. He motiend his paw down and hissed. “ Down Fang, lie down!” Moon closed his eyes for a moment, hoping it would work. Robin and rascal padded

up

their eyes in awe, holding their breath. Moon opened his eyes, wind blew gently. The dog was laying down, whining. Its tail thumping the ground restlessly. Moon blinked and looked down at his paws surprised. - It worked, it actually worked. Hmm thank you my darling sister, for teaching me that skill.- he smiled warmly, looking between dragon and fang he mewed. “Now Fang, be a good girl and go. Go home” Moon nosed the direction where. The dog obeyed, giving a frustrated bark it turned and trotted away towards the sun. The sun, ah a beautiful sight, was dipping into the blue ocean. Dragon winced and picked himself up. “It was a girl?!” he whined. Everyone laughed at this. Dragon did not seem impressed though. Moon thought for a second. He tipped his head, fur flopping down. “Say, Dragon. Would you be willing to stop bullying Rascal and Robin?” Immediately Dragon snarled “ No mouse-brain. Just because I allowed myself to look weak, doesn't mean I'll be goody-goody.” he turned around and harrumphed. Robin and

Rascal looked dejected, slowly they turned around. “I'll teach you how to catch bird’s.” Moon pointed out his real deal. Dragon perked his ears, and the littermates turned, curious. “Fine.. But.” He narrowed his eyes at the two. “I cant promise i wont tease these.. kits every once in a while.” Dragons ears were flat, but his eyes sparkled. Moon purred in amusement. Opening his mouth he closed it when Rascal piped up. “Hey! We’re not kits! We’re nearly 8 moons old!” he grumbled. Everyone laughed at this, even Rascal. -Today my words saved us all, perhaps my journey will be somewhere other than a nice quiet life after all.- Moon flicked Rascal with his tail. “Alright it's time to catch us some birds.”
