Queen Charlotte died in 1818 and her spiritually dead husband George III in 1820. Her son King George IV then decided to abandon the “Carlton House” he had and expanded Buckingham House to use it with St James's Palace, as his father had done During world war one the palace wasn´t damaged. During world war two it was hit with bombs 7 times. One of them landed in the garden while the people were in there. Nobody was hurt.
