Though phobia can mean aversion to something instead of fear, it is more commonly used as a suffix in classification of fears (arachnophobia, trypophobia, etc.) People might use ‘heterosexism’ if they are among the group who feels ‘homophobia’ has somewhat lost its meaning as it is used too sparingly and commonly people who are heterosexist/homophobic say “I’m not afraid of gay people, how am I homophobic?”
