Valerie's steps creeked on the floorboards above the basement where she tied William up. She was looking around for her rubber bullets, the sound of rustling in a storage closet bleeding into the room.
Her ear twitched when she heard the noise, looking down at the floor with a huff. She got out her gun and loaded it with the bullets, the gun clicking as she walked over to the basement door and unlocked it with a key she stored in her back pocket. She closed and locked the door behind her, turning on the bright LED light in the room.
The basement was almost entirely concreate, a lot of unneeded or broken things scattered all over the floor. There were boxes and shelves filled with chipped knives and gun parts that were broken off.
Valerie walked over to the chair, stopping a few feet in front of him with gun in hand, ready to fire if she needed. "You woke up. I'm surprised the drugs wore off so soon. Thought I'd have more time to get myself together."
She was quick to lift the gun and fire a warning shot at the ground, the rubber bullet just grazing his ear as it shot back up at him. "You're smart enough to know when to back down. Use your brain, detective." She looked him over briefly before lowering the gun back down with a sigh. "While we're on the topic of using our heads, want to take a guess why I brought you down here?" She met his eyes with a cold, unmoving stare.
"Mm. I see..." She circled him slowly, her boots clomping on the ground. "You see, detective, I'm a lot like you. I protect certain people from the harms of the world. Whatever that harm might be depends of the person I must stand by. You just happened to be a threat to the person I'm guarding." She stopped close in front of him, squatting down to his eye level and placing a chilled hand on his shoulder, her voice still eerily calm. "I take my job very seriously, detective. I hope you can wrap your mind around that."
She tapped the gun, looking down at it then back up at him, an odd sympathy washing over her face briefly. "No. I don't think I want to do that..." She sighed, running one of her hands though her hair. "I'm here to /warn/ you. Warn you that if you don't drop my client's case, there will be heavy consequences that will most definitely make you wish for death."
She kept it there for another second before throwing it carelessly to the floor, the gun clattering loudly as it hit a box on the wall. "Good. I'll be untying you now. Keep your promise, detective and I'll keep mine." She walked behind him and started to undo the restraints. "Even though I'm letting you go, I'll still be watching you in the background to make sure you don't go back on our deal. Alright?" The ropes dropped to the ground with a thud after she finished untangling them.
She unlocked the door and stepped out, a small blob of blankets and bullets spilling out from the closet. She walked to it and kicked the mess gently away from the walkway. The closet had an assortment of guns and a large box of bullets that matched. A few business coats and blazers alike were hung up, meant to hide the guns if she ever did have guests over.
She walked to the door and used a different key to unlock it, pausing and looking back at him. "Now, back to the case. I expect to see you drop it as soon as possible. I'll be generous and hold off on any attacks on your life for a week. If you haven't dropped the case by then and keep going into further investigation, appropriate measures will be taken to protect my client. Understand?" She gripped onto the doorknob.
