There are two types of zombies: viral and necromancie. Viral zombies are the classic “oh no I got bitten im turning into a zombie” you see in media. It originates and is spread through a virus that can be transmitted from saliva to bloodstream, and begins the rapid decay of flesh in its host. There are vaccines and treatments for the virus, but the decay effects are permanent, although there are elixirs that can halt any progression of decay and reduce the rotting flesh smell. Once the virus begins attacking the brain, that’s where the behavior seen in movie type zombies begins. The host of the virus begins to experience various mental afflictions like slurred speech, memory loss, absence of fear, inability to properly make decisions or process their surroundings etc. as I delve more into that I plan on making it a sort of similar issue to the way that neurodivergent people are treated in real life, as the people of the universe will be prejudiced towards zombies. Like I said, I plan on fleshing it out more.

The other type of zombies is necromancie, which is a little less interesting to explore. Necromancies are exactly what they sound like, people brought back from the dead by necromancers. Typically they are rich, as it costs a fortune to enlist a necromancer. They are also more intact than virals, as they typically have much less time to decay by to a time they are revived, although you can still tell when someone is a necromancie as they tend to be paler, have glassy eyes, some difficulty moving if they were revived after rigor mortis has set in, and slight bloating if it was a while before they were revived. Necromancies will not continue to decay after being revived and typically are completely intact physically and mentally. However there are few who are revived long after their death and are in much worse condition, though it is very uncommon as typically their brains have almost completely decomposed, and they would exist in a vegetative state if revived.

The two zombie characters I have introduced so far are both virals who have very different opinions and lifestyles surrounding their affliction. Myles prevented their decay a bit later than is typically recommended, and most of their body is in a fragile state. Since they still like to work, they have replaced many of their body parts as they begin to fail, and they enjoy creating methods to essentially take themselves apart and put back together. Mona is more connected to nature and the earth, and only preserves her brain, allowing the rest of her body to return to the earth. She declines Myles’ frequent offers to get her a new arm or new digestive system so she can eat again.
