i did read and worship warrior cats at some point, but it's actually because boots and socks' paws are white. it goes up enough to look like they're always wearing white socks, thus socks and boots!

they look identical, of course- they're siblings. and the two things that help my family identify who is who. is by boots' white streak. and socks is smaller,calmer,and usually favorited.
