Kalief Browder was 16 when he was wrongfully accused of stealing a backpack and its contents (he was stopped and frisked, which is illegal now but it's where policemen have the authority to stop anyone without reason and it was shut down because it was terribly racist) and was taken into questioning. He was found guilty and spent 3 years on Rikers' Island, which is considered one of the most dangerous prisons in the world. 2 of those years were spent in solitary confinement.
