LinkSometimes I hear people say the most uneducated thing about something they clearly don’t understand, or something they do understand but refuse to acknowledge the dedication and time put into it. For ppl who just simply don’t understand why what they said made the person they said it too seem ticked off this post is for you

LinkOk firstly don’t call our hair “wild” or “nappy” you’d think that’d be common sense but apparently not, a misconception about dreads is that they form from not taking care or washing your hair and that is simply not true at all. In order to have healthy dreads you have to wash them every two weeks and detox them every once in a while.

LinkSecond, I cannot stress this enough. PLEASE.DONT.TOUCH. OUR. HAIR. (Without our permission) like randomly going up to someone and stroking their braids as if they’re yours is very inappropriate and disrespectful especially if I don’t know you . I don’t know where your cheeto fingers have been so why would I want them in my hair

LinkSome things you should say are, “I love your hair” or (if they have dreads) “are those twist or free form?” Trust and believe we would love to tell you. Appreciate black hair because it truly is an art form

I figured most of this was common sense,, especially not touching other people's hair?? I wouldn't want that done to me so i'm not gonna do it to other people without permission
I do know someone who was at my high school who needed to read this post. She was so insensitive and annoying about poc fr. Made everyone mad uncomfortable to see
