Midas is a vain Kirin, using his magic to grant wishes of wealth for himself rather than others. In an attempt to teach the kirin a lesson, his patron goddess cursed his hooves with the touch of gold. Where he walks, gold forms in his footsteps. And without the hands to pick it up, all he can do is watch as others take advantage. He can no longer touch all the gems and trinkets he hold dear with his hooves or they will turn to gold before him. Also I did still use the pallette you gave me, I just used a gradient generator to generate a gradient from the yellow and blue you gave me. Also! That patterning around his hooves is called Kintsugi, and is the art of fixing cracked and broken things (generally pottery) with gold dust and resin!
