Art Frustration Composed by: Me and my Drama Teacher. She's the best. So I'm sitting in art class, the teacher talks about task to be an art master, a creator of the future! My mind fills with creative juices. A world full of dragons that fight and frolic, through a rainforest stuffed full of tropical trees. The birds of paradise preen and plummet past glittering scales. Then the teacher looks my way and says (With a nasally voice) "You will be required to draw geometric shapes on a square piece of paper." My mind freezes, this can't be smart. Surely an artist should find freedom. And what about my mind blowing dreams of tree-dom? So I'm stranded, nervous little brain in a scramble. I mumble "What about learning in your won, unique way? Each perspective is original, that's what I say." Yeah, thanks for the C, really means a lot to me. My animating dreams shattered by shards of geometric shapes! I decide to wait, I hope it's not to late when i'll raise my hand and ask her "Why? Why do you try to

teach us THIS? This has NOTHINg to do about art. Isn't imagination the heart of this craft? I raise my hand and ask "What does this have to do with art? Unsaid-"What about... from the heart?" The with of her eye, the steely gleam, the feeling of frustration back at me. It was mutual, i could see. (TWIT TEACHER) "Well listen to me.. you'll learn about POSITIVE and NEGATIVE SPACE." Oh? Inside my mind, my trees 'negatively' die, the fires rising higher and higher, my poor dragons continuously crying. Mildly, I reply, "You can't be creative in this-" See cuts me off. "YOU can be as creative as YOU want!" And turns And walks Away.
