she was killed by her closest friends during a drunk argument at a party and they threw her body in a lake and covered up the crime. sega built their hq by the lake which grafted her soul into a sonic disc and she's been stuck inside it for 30 years. but she can move the disc around herself somehow?? and she uses that to capture her friends to kill them, stuff their souls in the sonic characters and torture them for all eternity. it's kinda goofy it's just a slightly better spin on sonic.exe
