A?
An animal on the side of a road, next to a car on fire. That was what he needed.
No service, he had tried to call his mother before. It didn't go through.
He battered the hazard lights button while clicking his tongue, before slamming on the brakes; the tires squealing in protest as the car was forced to a stop. He got out of it, with a hand to his head and an exasperated sigh.
He stood there, right next to his car, quiet and unmoving as thoughts and debates went through his mind, his hand passing over his face before falling to his side.
He tensed his hand. All he wanted to do was to scream in anger, pain and betrayal; but an animal, an innocent poor animal, laid there, in the midst of a fire. How did they even get there? He thought.
He unclenched his hand he hadn't noticed had clenched, and walked towards the accident, reluctant as he stumbled and looked left and right. There was no one in the car - he hadn't thought of that. He shut his thoughts as he walked closer.
As he got closer, he saw that this was no animal. It looked like a skeleton, and yet, it bled.
He gasped but then regained his composure, crouching next to the monster and reaching out his hand. He wasn't close enough to reach it.
Forced to take one more step, he did. His head turned towards his left faster than he could realize.
A body. A charred, featureless body, with its mouth wide open and its arms spread out; frozen, as if time had stopped for them. They wouldn't have been able to escape, either; they were stuck, forced in place by the seatbelt.
His eyes widened. He couldn't tear them away.
He moved one step closer to the animal, his eyes still locked on to the body, and stumbled and fell; forcing to tear his gaze away to the ground, slamming his hand against it for support.
With no other option and an anxious breath, he reached out his hand to the monster, and pet it. It was cold. It felt harsh. But that was better. It took him away from reality.
how's your character shaped? I assumed it was an animal-like figure since most of this site's rpers are heavy furries afaik but it seems like it's really not, which is pretty cool. by the way animal or not petting still works. headpats best shit since sliced bread change my mind)
It opened its eyes and talked.
Whatever this thing was, it knew how to talk - worst of all, it had eyes. They looked distraught; gazing, sluggish and with a small flinch of pain, at every direction.
They were injured.
His chest hurt, and he felt hopeless. His hands shook and his breath quickened; as images of the body appeared on his mind - relentless and unforgiving.
That anger he had felt earlier was replaced by pity and a sense of doom.
"He-hey, are you okay?" He asked to the skeleton. The skeleton. This was a skeleton after all.
In one swift moment, it all hit him at once. The body, the creature - the fire and his betrayal; it reached him, as fast as a car in a highway, that went off-track and rolled sideways.
He could only put his hands to his head as he whimpered, feeling a million emotions. With them, came thoughts. Thoughts of disappointment, self-doubt and of regret: He thought of this poor monster, whether or not it was a skeleton with eyes that could somehow bleed and talk. He thought of the poor driver. He thought of his girlfriend.
Only clenching his hands and tearing his hair, he looked at the monster with tear-stricken eyes, awaiting a response.
I guess he's like your pfp? Kinda like sans. I'll think of him that way if you okay with that)
His thoughts all shut down in a mere moment as he heard the creature talk. He didn't register his response. He could only but nod, wiping his eyes with his sleeve before shivering as he remembered the body, then standing up.
He needed to talk, but words wouldn't come out of his mouth.
Taking a deep breath, he tried to talk once again. "Do you," he said, his voice quiet, "need a ride?"
He needs to take him somewhere - perhaps an hospital, but he doesn't think they treat skeletons. If that doesn't work, he can take it to his mother; she's the one who told him about their existence, after all.
