LinkI've spoken about this before, I guess I will again.
So, people with issues deal with them differently. Some try not to think about it, some use it as a reason to keep pushing forward and getting better. There are lots of people who do different things.
One of the most common is joking about it. This can be for many issues and many reasons.
For me, I joke about my issues. The reasoning, for me, is that it makes me feel normal.
You see, I habe de autism. One of the things I used to struggle with was people joking about me, in a friendly way. I always took it personally. But now, I'm able to take a joke.
But people treat autism people differently, and that makes me feel like a ****ing freak. So I joke about my issues, like everyone else can, so I don't feel quite as freakish.

LinkAnd,if you were able to understand stuff you read, my "no autism jokes" thing was itself a post on which I explain why I believe it's fine to joke about autism.

Link*me.
I joke about issues (and exaggerate them greatly ngl) cause it distracts me from the real nature of said issues. It also is a good way to open a dialogue about those things without having it get too heavy right away (unless someone takes it there, hen it's not my fault). If I was treating my problems like some profound meaningful thing, I'd just be wallowing in those issues and being a little baby
Those are just my two cents though. Has this discourse started again? I can't believe people still think it's so terrible to make suicide jokes smh
