Phantomwings are basically birds that got infused with darkness and received special powers. Every time they use their powers, they lose part of their true selves. Powers can include the ability to abuse gravity, psychic abilities, withering abilities, etc. When they lose part of their soul(when they use their powers) they gain new physical features, including spikes, sharper talons, getting taller, knife-sharp wingtips, a sharper beak, etc. Hobbies include crawling into the dreams of other creatures and tormenting them in their sleep. They cannot be harmed by any creatures that are not of their kind. They do not bleed. If they get a scratch, that art of themselves is gone forever. Ultimately uncaring, evil beings of darkness.

well- They lose a part of themselves to be controlled by another sentient part of themselves, the shadow. So basically thier bodies get taken over bit by bit when they use their powers
