In Islam, God (Arabic: ٱللَّٰه, romanized: Allāh, contraction of ٱلْإِلَٰه Allāh, lit. "the God")[1] is the absolute one, the all-powerful and all-knowing ruler of the universe, and the creator of everything in existence.[1][2][3] Islam emphasizes that God is strictly singular (tawḥīd); unique (wāḥid); inherently One (aḥad);[1][2][4] and also all-merciful and omnipotent.[5] According to Islam, God is neither a material nor a spiritual being.[6] According to Islamic teachings, beyond the Throne (al-ʾArsh)[7] and according to the Quran, "No vision can grasp him, but His grasp is over all vision: He is above all comprehension, yet is acquainted with all things."[8]
