When used in a derogatory way, Queer can be an insult and slur, but when someone identifies as such, it isn't, because that is what label they feel best fits them. As an identity, Queer has it's own flag and community, me being one of them. It is used as an umbrella term for people who feel it is the easiest way to identify or that it is the identity that fits them best. Under a similar banner, Genderqueer is valid a gender identity, and does not mock non-binary people or other gender-non-conforming people, it is just how they identify. Thank you for your concern though!
