I get the joke. Hes a dolphin boy/mermaid, and they need water to breathe, and hes drowning cause hes not in the water ovo,,
1. It’s not a joke 2. Dolphins aren’t fish, they are mammals and therefore need air to breathe 3. This picture is a depiction of a moment when he is jumping above the water, as dolphins do, and sees his reflection in the water. In that moment he reflects on the fact that he is bound to the surface, and if he stays in his own home for too long he will actually die. He thinks about why he was made that way, stuck between two worlds that would both have him dead, why he was born, why his species is like that, and why or how life exists on this planet. Why life is so complicated, and full of boundaries.
I guess it's a dolphin's existential crisis ^w^

is he drowning in or out of the water? It looks like out, and if so, try to make that a teeny bit more obvious. The reflection also looks slightly choppy around the edges. To be honest, that’s really it.
The shading is wonderful, and I really get some kind of emotion looking at this piece of art. You also did a wonderful job with the ripples, They really add something without distracting you from the drawing itsself. 9/10
