It was easy. Just grabbing the bottle from the pharmacist, and sprinting out. Security was too slow to catch me. Running down the sidewalk, weaving around people as easily as cutting through butter. I stumbled, yet quickly righted myself, and continued on. The strings from my grey hoodie trailed behind me, occasionally hitting me in the face. My long black hair was in my face. My long legs kept moving, even when the muscles began to ache and my lungs were screaming for air. My heart was pounding in my ears. I turned into an alleyway. I ran, my breath heaving out of my lungs. The wail of sirens and the shouts of policemen were roaring in my ears. I let loose a whoosh of air and put on a burst of speed. The cops were sprinting behind me. My thin body was soaked in sweat, yet I was easily able to outrun the cops. We were almost out of the alley. There was a horde of police cars encircling the end of the alleyway, which was suspicious because it was just a simple robbery.

The medicine wasn’t worth that much, right? Or had they found out…? I ran out of the alley, the dim sun shining through the thin grey clouds. A police car was right in front of me. I vaulted over the hood, landed on my feet on the cracked road, and kept running. I darted into another alleyway, and lost them for a minute or two. The winding streets of Liamas were confusing, unless you were constantly on the run. My younger brother was waiting for me in a smaller alley. I could spare a few seconds to ask him a couple of questions. I paused, leaning over to catch my breath. “How is she?” I said, tossing him the bottle. “She’s getting worse. You got the medicine just in time,” he responded. “I’ve got to go. Get home quickly. I’ll be there in a little bit.” I stood up and gulped down some more air. My throat was dry. My little brother’s bowl cut was tousled, and you could see how pale his skin was, and the bags under his eyes.
