Not too long ago, people shared jokes, stories, and lame inspirational messages by copy/pasting text into message board posts or email. On the message board 4chan, users started calling these text memes “copypasta,” a catchy portmanteau of copy and paste. Among the copypasta lurked some seriously scary stories and urban legends, and by the mid-2000s, people were calling these stories “creepypasta.” Like spaghetti thrown at a wall, the name stuck. And certain creepypasta have carved out a place in the heart of internet culture (which was still beating! When the wind is right, you can still hear its screams). The infamous Slender Man meme started out as a creepypasta that rapidly grew into an internet mythos as fans added their own stories and images to the canon. Other tales, like “The Rake” and “Candle Cove” also began as one-shot creepypasta but grew into urban legends, given life by communities like Something Awful, Reddit, and Tumblr. While Slender Man has become so influential tha

Everyone has a television show from their childhood that they fondly remember. Like those who nostalgically recall the adventures of Dora the Explorer, Mister Rogers, and Sesame Street, some adults rediscovered their favorite show from the 1970s, Candle Cove, on a television forum in this creepypasta. Slowly, their memories of the show grow darker and more disturbing until one of the adults asks his mother about the true nature of the show. The forum format of the story adds a spooky realism to the tale, also making it easy to recreate and share on other boards. If you find this story particularly compelling, watch the first season of the Syfy original series Channel Zero, which is based off this creepypasta. 3. Robert the Doll Not for the faint of heart, Robert the Doll really exists. The myths surrounding him vary, especially since it became so popular on the internet. The doll was given to artist Robert Eugene Otto in the late 1800s or early 1900s by a servant working in his family home. The doll

e doll originally belonged to Robert Eugene Otto, an artist described as "eccentric" who belonged to a prominent Key West family. The doll was reportedly manufactured by the Steiff Company of Germany, purchased by Otto's grandfather while on a trip to Germany in 1904, and given to young Otto as a birthday gift. The doll's sailor suit was likely an outfit that Otto wore as a child.[3][1] The doll remained stored in the Otto family home at 534 Eaton Street in Key West while Otto studied art in New York and Paris. Otto married Annette Parker in Paris on May 3, 1930. The couple returned to the Otto family home in Key West to live there until Otto died in 1974. His wife died two years later.[4][5] After their deaths, the Eaton Street home containing the doll was sold to Myrtle Reuter, who owned it for 20 years[3] until the property was sold to the current owners, who operate it as a guest house.[4] In 1994, the doll was donated to the East Martello Museum in Key West, Florida, where it eventually became a po
