Star's bright colors are non willy nilly either. when she was younger she was exposed to a harmful organism called 'blue anrotraca' for extended periods of time, this land coral grows in colonies that resemble crystals, but this coral is also bio luminescent, meaning it glows in the dark. This coral can be parasitic, when Star was young it's 'spores' latched onto Star. infecting her.

Often, blue anrotraca kills off it's host by entering the blood stream then forming large crystals int the heart, causing fatal internal bleeding, Star was compatible with this parasite, so it didn't kill her, obviously, blue anrotraca has its pros, it increases recovery, metabolism, and it gives immunity to viruses, other parasites, and diseases

blue anrotraca attacks foreign bodies, such as viruses, it leeches off it's energy, then kills it. Like flamingos and how krill color them pink, Star's blue anrotraca gives her those green and blue colors because her blood is actually blue, but for gore i draw it red so that you can tell it's actually blood.
