basically, tl;dr for this entire thing before i even type it: if liking godspeed you black emperor makes me a little baby libtard, call me an ancom cause im not giving up that band to be cool i've said it before and i'll say it with my dying breath: art that evokes no emotion in anyone is not good art. Technical skill has nothing to do with it. listening to the disintegration tapes rn, and it's definitely something that can easily be excused with "well, i could do that" ignoring the skill that very well did go into this album, let's say you could have made it. Anyone with a tape recorder could have made this album. You still didn't, though. If anyone could make some dumb modern art, why isn't everyone? Why sit there in your home on the internet and deride people going out and MAKING, something you never dare to do. Is there something stopping you from painting some bars of color on your canvas, if anyone can do it?

(you general) Nothing is stopping you, according to your own words, so go out and MAKE SOMETHING. But no, all that will happen is that you continue to sit there and wait for something that's to your specifications to appear. You won't make it. You'll never make anything worth seeing or worth remembering by future generations. You'll never make anything that can go in a museum. You'll never find the willpower to put some lines on canvas. You'll never sit there and play an old tape over and over and over until it becomes unrecognizable. You'll never distort 20th century music to a degree where it becomes eerie. You won't say anything with your work because you'll never make that work. You won't write anything, paint anything, draw anything, record anything. All you'll do is consume the same things over and over and over and hope that one day someone will reach into your mind and pull the vision of a perfect work out.

The new Star Wars movie isn't good enough, but you'll never take the time to make a space opera yourself. There's not enough diversity in comics, but you won't take the time to draw a diverse comic. You exist to *consume*, not *create*. Creation is for The Others, not for you. You cannot make things. You refuse to even start. You won't try. You will sit there, languishing on twitter.com, always mad about someone else's creation, because they are The Others who create and you exist to consume. They are Others, they are Different. They need to make things for you. It does not matter how many people like the work as it is, it needs to be different. It does not matter what emotions the work evokes, it is not Good Enough and it must be "fixed", made into something unchallenging and aesthetically pleasing, something you must never think about to understand. You shouldn't need to think about a work in order to understand it. That's asking too much of you, truly

Modern art is not bad by virtue of being modern art. And if it is, make something better yourself.
