walls of Kou, to spend her few days in isolation. She was quickly introduced to the first Princes of Kou, Hakuyuu and Hakuren. They were quick to become friends, and they were the only ones there for her in her time of need. As time went on, Kouru grew weaker and weaker, soon unable to even walk. Some days she'd cough up blood, and she began to have vivid nightmares. The castle soon moved her to her bed, where she wasn't allowed to leave unless told otherwise. Hakuyuu and Hakuren visited her everyday, Hakuyuu would sometimes hold her and they'd tell stories of their childhood. However, near her 20th birthday, the visits began to become less frequent. The brothers were incredibly busy with their royal duties, and Hakuyuu was beginning to train and teach Kouen, her little brother. Of course they WANTED to visit her, and would do so as much as possible, but sometimes, it WASN'T possible. The days grew colder, and winter neared, as did her 21st birthday. -d faster. On the day of her 21st birthday, Hakuyuu and Hakuren visited her. Kouru smiled, as she always did, not shedding a tear for anyone to see once. Hakuren let them have some alone time, time to talk. Kouru could barely lift her head at this point. Her eyes that were once a bright ruby were now dull and listless, but still turned upright as she smiled weakly. Hakuyuu was trying his best to keep his composure as she coughed into her fist softly. She looked back up at him with glazed eyes ad smiled softly, her voice still velvety and sickly sweet, "Hakuyuu," she whispered, "it's been a while since I've seen your face." She closed her eyes, still smiling weakly, as she clasped her hands, "I'm glad I can see you, one last time." Hakuyuu's face was downcast, a shadow upon him as he frowned, "don't say that. We can still find a way to lift your curse-!" He looked up, startled, as her felt a cold hand on his cheek. He looked up to see Kouru, his eyes widening at the sight before him. Kouru had tears pouring do

-wn her flushed cheeks, a sad smile still there however. She never cried. Not even when she fell as a child and scraped her knee, she always had a cheeky grin plastered on her face. When she was told not to leave her bed, she merely smiled and nodded. But know, all of her emotions bubbled up. She sobbed, still smiling softly, and hiccuped, "Hakuyuu, I love you. Please know that I love you. I'll always love you." Hakuyuu felt his heart beat faster as he wrapped his arms around her tightly, "Kouru," he whispered, "I love you too." After a moment of silence, they let each other go, and Kouru laid her head on her pillow. "Hakuyuu," she closed her eyes, "do you know how painful it was?" Hakuyuu stared at her in surprise, "What..?" She smiled again, "Do you know how painful it was?" she repeated. Hakuyuu clutched his fist, "how painful what was?" Kouru tilted her head to look out her window, as the last cherry blossom on the dark tree began to fall off, "to watch everyone I love grow up and be happy without me?"

Hakuyuu's eyes widened. She continued, "but I was happy. I still am. It was kind of nice to see everyone smile and get older in a way. I just wish I could have played a bigger part." She faced him again, her eyelids dropping, tears still poking at her dull hues, "It'll be nice to go to the afterlife, to join the rukh. To join momma. It'll be like an adventure." She chuckled weakly, "can you promise me something?" Hakuyuu, tears now forming in his eyes as well, nodded quickly, "anything." Kouru smiled weakly and closed her eyes, "Promise to live on without me, even though I'll be right by your side anyway, even if you can't see me. Laugh with Hakuren, teach Kouen more things, feed pigeons with Koumei. After all, I'll be with you, and when I'm with you I don't want to see you sad." Hakuyuu stared down at her, the tears now spilling, as Kouru's unforgiving smile rested upon her face. The last cherry blossom fell from the sakura tree, plunging toward the cold ground. Hakuyuu nodded, as Kouru's small grin still pl

-ayed on her face. Her body fell limp and her chest fell with her final, shaky breath. The room was eerily silent, as it grew cold. "I promise."
