- Epilogue - Tabitha's soft kitten paws padded noiselessly across the rough, bumpy brick floor. She lived in a small niche in the back wall of the Pizza Parlor; It was hardly big enough to fit Tabitha, her mother, and Chase, her brother. She hadn't ever met her father. The entrance to this compartment was a small crack in the brick wall; Apparently the niche was made when an accident occurred, breaking into part of the wall, though it didn't go all the way through. The owner of the Pizza Parlor was cheap, and fixed it up using a thin layer of concrete, which soon cracked to create the entrance. Tabitha, or Tabi, didn't know this, and often puzzled on how her home came to be. Tabi had only gone outside once since she was still a small ginger kit, but she looked outside through her crack in the wall to paint a clear picture of the outside world. It was a small clearing, with a brick wall blocking the right side entirely. Another wall was on the left, but it left a tiny gap open so that the residents of the

Pizza Parlor could empty out the trashcans that were lined against the back. On the opposite side of Tabitha's home was a chain link fence. Though vines crept shyly up the chain link fence, and the trashcans smelled horribly, Tabi thought that this felt like home even more than the crack-in-the-wall alcove. Now she had been awoken by a shadow that blocked out the moonlight, which usually flitted through the crack like Nature's nightlight. Her mother and Chase were missing from their normal sleeping spots, so she made her way to the opening, hoping to find them returning from some nighttime hunt. What she saw was much different. Tabi's brother was standing, surprisingly, in front of her mother. Her mother tried to use her paw to push him back, but he batted at it with his silky paws until she recoiled. Across from them, Tabitha saw her mother's best friend, Sabor. "You know it'd be best for the kits," Sabor was meowing. "No, I'd feel as if I were betraying Toklo," Tabi's mother replied cooly, but Tabitha

could see the hurt in her eyes as she said it. Toklo was Tabi's father. "He's dead, don't you think you should move on by now, Akimi?" Sabor said with an icy air. "No," Her voice was now in a low hiss, "Never," Tabitha didn't recognize this version of Sabor, he was usually gentle and sweet with all of them. "Don't hiss at me, Akimi, or else," There was venom in his voice. Tabitha wandered out of her home cautiously, not making a sound. A bit of glass crunched under her paws and she paused; "Everyone's too focused in the conversation to listen," she thought, but Sabor's ear flicked toward her. She was a good distance out of the niche, and she stopped before she wandered out of the shadows. "I think I can handle whatever threat you have," Akimi spat back, but her eyes widened as Sabor lunged, not at her, but at Chase. Tabi tried to yowl, but her voice caught in her throat. Her mother leaped forward, but it was too late. Chase was dead. "You can handle it, huh?" Sabor sneered, as Akimi let out a choked sob

. Tabitha's mother flicked her eyes from Sabor to her dead kit in astounded sadness. Sadness soon turned to anger, and Tabi's mother pounced onto Sabor, slashing at his pelt. He twisted and flung Akimi off. Before she regained her balance, Sabor was on top of her. Tabitha's mother slashed at his underbelly with her back talons. He winced, but gave Akimi a blow to the head which made her body go limp. Then Tabitha watched in horror as Sabor turned towards her. She froze as Sabor started bounding towards her with a mad gleam in his eye that she hadn't seen there before. She suddenly recovered her senses and scampered towards the safety of her hole. When she was almost there, she made the mistake of looking back. Sabor's claws met her eye, blinding her for a moment. It didn't hurt, but even young Tabi knew that it was just adrenaline. From her one good eye, she saw Sabor reach towards her for the death blow. She ran into the crack so fast that she barely avoided the crash into the back wall. When she look

ed back, she could see his tail disappearing over the chain link fence. Suddenly the adrenaline faded, and her eye stung as if a dragon had blown fire right into it. Even through the pain, even though she was just a kit, she knew of a duty that's twists and turns could be described in one word: Revenge.
