Blindness doesn't mean true death but it does mean that the person who does not have the gift of sight will have a higher risk of dying if not born blind. Most people born blind already have other senses enhanced to help them. If one is not naturally blind, they may not know what is going on and could easily be clumsy, so they'd have to be cautious. You could train a person who isn't naturally blind to raise the ability of their other senses.
