1) Raiku was meant to be the reincarnation of the Goddess "Aine." Aine wields the power to create and build from nothing. His creator wanted to use Raiku for his own selfish needs, and what he thought was "good" for their world. 2) He is Professor Tom, one of the scientists that helped bring Raiku to life. And practically kept him company all the time through his life, up until Chronic broke him out of the lab so he could live freely. 3) Chronic is known to be the smiling type, especially in danger or combat. So he's usually smiling all the time, when he doesn't smile it probably means he's super angry or depressed. 4) Raiku and Chronic want to fight for what's right, that includes stopping Raiku's creator to go through with using his magic/powers to create a new world. The creator of Raiku(he is unnamed for now) as said, wants to create a new world for the perfect and balanced, he also wants to eliminate the people who he thinks is flawed. ( Commenting more, one sec )

5) Several years back in the past a strand of Aine's hair was found, it carried her magical properties and abilities. They used that piece of hair to create Raiku. But they expected him to look like her, but alas, he looked nothing like her. They were disappointed, but still went through with the plan to use him. When he was created, they told him he lost his memory from hitting his head, they never brought up that he was the reincarnation of Aine. 6) Chronic worked for a group that literally does anything for money, and that could mean stealing, killing, and etc. So Professor Tom called them up so Chronic could get Raiku out of the lab(Tom hated seeing Raiku in pain so he thought it was for the best) And of course, Chronic agreed as he proceeded to break Raiku out of there. And since that day, their relationship built up from friends to partners.

Aine is the one everyone knows the best, but yes there are many more deities. (Thanks for asking these questions btw, it was fun to type them out for once! :D)

Everyone believes she is dead, but in reality she is tired of her job of creating things for the planet. She hides out in a tower far in the sky, just chilling. So that's why there's other deities! She created them so she could relax for once.
