The Prologue merely refers to the feud between the Montagues and Capulets as an "ancient grudge" with no further explanation as to why the two families hate each other. ... One of Shakespeare's points is that the violence and feuding that ends with the death of Romeo and Juliet is senseless. The Capulets are not that wealthy but don't care who Romeo marries as long as he's happy. And they know about Romeo and Juliet being in love, etc. The Montagues are a more royal family than the Capulets and they don't know about Romeo and Juliet and they force Juliet to marry someone she doesn't love. insert wheezing here
