so like. he used to be this creature called solaris that could destroy universes or something idk i forgot. but it got separated into 2 different entities mephiles and iblis. iblis is some big fire monster that destroys cities and mephiles is the intelligence of solaris and he wants to fuse with iblis again so he manipulates some of the main characters into doing his bidding, in this case with silver he told him to kill sonic cause he's the 'iblis trigger' (the guy who awakened iblis who destroyed the whole city in the future)
