Her mother is a housecat called Cinnamon and her father is rouge called Potatosaled. She grew up with her father, he taught her how to hunt, scent and fight. She was his favourite out of the three. When she was old enough, her father took her and her brothers to her mother, who taught them how to play, loosen up and become softer. Eventually, her father stopped taking her and her brother Night, but Storm was allowed to wander off there alone. He grew fatter, lazier and less like the wild cat he once was. So one day, he just got up and left to live with mother. Nahomi never saw him again. Night and Nahomi were getting more worried as days went by. Their father was getting old and less able to hunt, and winter was coming. Their pelts began to thicken, but their stomachs shrunk. Sometimes they even had to eat the food humans put out for them

By this time Nahomi was old enough to take care of herself. Night was getting less fun to play with and getting more and more serious. Potatosalad (he had changed his name to Rusty) was dying. He was getting sicker and sicker by the day, and Nahomi was doing everything she could to ease him. It was a particular stormy winter night that he passed.
