maturing is realizing that I do need help in life. I used to hate refs and didnt understand it, but now I LOVE them. I love looking at the world and using it to base art off of it.

I would say "I dont need refs" and then proceed to draw humans so unproportional it wasnt even funny

no because this is the constant attitude i have with art. not cause i think it makes me cooler i just don't wanna end up making my shit too similar to the reference picture. makes me feel like i'm stealing when i need to remember that EVERY artist uses references, even the famous ones with artwork in museums

Thats super valid! I had a similar thought process. It takes time to be content with that kinda stuff. I still struggle with that when it comes to cartoon/nonreal refs (I use real taken photos as much as possible) and Pinterest puts me in a chokehold every time.
