Ilyan sat at a table, a warm cup of black tea cupped in his calloused hands. Sunshine sat on his shoulder, preening herself in the sunlight that shone in through the window.

Ilyan smiled at the boy standing in the shadows, waving him over.

Ilyan looked confused, standing and walking over to the boy.

Ilyan knelt and took the boy's hands in his own, trying not to marvel at the size difference. Sunshine paid no attention to either of them, continuing to preen.

Ilyan stood, holding his hands up in a non-threatening way. "Sorry, sorry, personal space, I know, apologies."

Ilyan was scanning the boy's face, worried for him.

"Do you need help...?" Ilyan asked softly, as not to spook him.

Ilyan stood, slowly extending a hand towards him. It was obvious he was much taller than the boy. "Can I buy you a drink?" He offered.

"Do you want me to take you somewhere else?" He asked tentatively, drawing his hand back and twiddling his thumbs.

"Y-yeah, to a park or a lake or something. Somewhere calmer." He said, his deep voice almost silent as he lowered his voice.

"Let me show you. I'll take you to the mountains for a day, you'll like it."

"Who?" Ilyan asks, stepping closer.

"I won't let them. I'll call the cops if needed, I'm not going to leave you."

Ilyan seemed surprised, hugging back. "Now, I'll take you anywhere you want to go, you need to get away from here. The beach, the mountains, the lake, the park, anywhere."

"The beach it is then, the sunshine could do you good."

"Cmon, we have to stop by the store to stock up on snacks and buy some swimsuits."

Ilyan offered him his hand. "I'm Ilyan, by the way."

Ilyan tugs him in closer, walking with him out the door and towards his blue van, a Chinese dragon painted on its sides.

He opened the passenger side door for JJ.

Ilyan closed the door, walking around and getting in on the drivers side.

"Thanks. Put on your seatbelt, we don't need you getting hurt if we get in a crash."

"Sunshine, get in your cage baby, we don't need you getting hurt either." Ilyan crooned to the bird, who fluttered to her cage and opened the door, sitting on a perch.

"Lets rock and roll, buckaroo." Ilyan said, backing out.

"21, why?"

"Okay."

He drove until they stopped outside a target, turning off the car, grabbing Sunshine, unbuckling, and stepping out.
